From 16 to 18 April, the FEP Finance Club of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto (FEP) will be organising the “Finance Summit”, an innovative and educational event aimed at increasing the financial literacy of the entire academic community and bringing ordinary people closer to the subject.

This initiative will feature various debate sessions, workshops and networking, with renowned speakers from the fields of Wealth Management, Real Estate, Venture Capital and Private Equity.

“The Finance Summit is a totally innovative event, based on a pressing desire to combat the financial illiteracy that plagues our country and to bring the world of finance closer to the reality of ordinary citizens. This initiative shows how youth organisations and the academic community can be the driving force behind a movement to build a more educated and informed society, a society that is aware and knowledgeable about its surroundings,” says the FEP Finance Club.

On the first day, participants will be shown the national panorama of the financial sector, as well as the role of educational institutions in promoting knowledge about these issues. This will be followed by two workshops on the prejudices that exist in relation to money and the financial products available for savings and investment. There will also be the opportunity to interact with professionals from banks and brokerage firms present at their stands. The day will end with a Ted Talk on building long-term wealth.

On the second day of the event, there will be a round table discussion on the property market in Portugal and its duality as an investment vehicle and a public good, contextualised in the current housing crisis. The debate will be led by experts who will share valuable insights with the participants.

This initiative will culminate in an afternoon dedicated to entrepreneurship and innovation, through the exhibition of stands from different Portuguese start-ups. This will be followed by two round tables where perspectives will be shared on the reality of start-ups and venture capital companies at a national level, as well as on the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Portugal and the role of public institutions in promoting talent and innovation.

The Finance Summit will take place in the FEP’s Salão Nobre, has free admission and is aimed at all students, teachers, professionals and other interested parties who wish to deepen their knowledge of the world of finance.
