FEP Professors Aurora Teixeira, João Gama and Manuel Castelo Branco have been highlighted in the list of the world’s most cited scientists in 2022, according to the latest update of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists list”.

The list of the most cited U.Porto researchers in 2022 is headed by Joana C. Prata, a visiting professor at the Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICBAS). The professor is followed by a trio of lecturers and researchers, João Catalão (FEUP) and João Gama (FEP and INESC TEC) and researcher Eliana B. Souto from the School of Pharmacy.

The University of Porto is represented by 162 researchers and professors on the list of the world’s most-cited scientists in 2022. The figure comes from the most recent update of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists list”, a study carried out by researchers at Stanford University (USA) which annually ranks the world’s most cited scientists in their respective fields, according to SCOPUS, the world’s largest database of abstracts and citations of scientific publications.

As well as being one of the most cited researchers over the last year, Professor João Gama was highlighted in the list of scientists with the most impact throughout their careers.

About the World’s Top 2% Scientists list

Coordinated by John Ioannidis of Stanford University (USA), in partnership with publisher Elsevier B.V. and SciTech Strategies, the World’s Top 2% Scientists list provides standardised information on citations, h-index and hm-index adjusted for co-authorship, among other indicators.

The first version of the list was published in 2019 to create a publicly available database of more than 100,000 scientists to combat self-citation abuses. Since then, the publication has been updated every year.

The original study can be consulted on the Public Library of Science Biology (PLOS Biology) website.
