At the DSPA Insights 2024 conference, held on 19 September at the School of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, FEP’s Coordinator of Pedagogical Innovation, Nuno Moutinho, presented the innovative chatbot that will be implemented at FEP this academic year.

DSPA Insights is one of the main Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) events in Portugal, bringing together experts and industry leaders to discuss the latest innovations and trends. This year, the event covered topics such as AI-driven compliance solutions and the impact of AI in areas such as health, sport and education.

‘FEP’s participation in this conference is recognition of its innovative capacity and strategy to prepare students for a constantly evolving technological world,’ emphasises Nuno Moutinho.

It’s worth remembering that from February 2025, around 500 students will start using the chatbot developed with generative artificial intelligence in ten curricular units in different areas of study. The tool, developed by the Porto technology company Armis, will allow lecturers to upload documents and create knowledge bases that will be accessible to students, lecturers and researchers.

The chatbot will act as a personal tutor, interacting in several languages and offering especially valuable support for international students. Although it is primarily designed for self-study, it can also be used in group work and classroom dynamics, providing teachers with aggregated information and metrics on the areas in which students face the most difficulties.

This pilot project is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).
