FEP was awarded, on 7th July, by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with the insignia of Honorary Member of the Order of Merit.
Unable to be present, the President of the Republic delegated the award to the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, at the gala dinner celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Faculty, which took place at Palácio da Bolsa.
However, through a video that the President of the Republic recorded for the moment, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa stressed that he had made an “exception to what has been a rule in recognising the merit of an institution, namely of excellence in higher education. It is usually 75 years, or 100 years, before an award is given. I believe that these 70 years are worth 75 years”.
In his recorded message, the President of the Republic referred to the genesis of the creation of the School. “It was so difficult to give birth, it was so difficult to affirm and it is so evident the importance of what was done that the Minister will deliver the insignia corresponding to what is the recognition of your merit, the merit of all, of the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto in the community reality that encompasses you, which was at your genesis and is the reason for your success today”, highlighted Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The delivery of this distinction was the highlight of the gala dinner celebrating the 70th anniversary of the School, which brought together the FEP community with the other communities that surround it, as well as former students, entrepreneurs, partners and various personalities from the city, the region and the country.
