The School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto (FEP) was recently highlighted in the prestigious Financial Times (FT) Masters in Management 2024 Ranking, with the Masters in Management (MiM) reaching 70th position among the selected institutions.
‘MiM’s rise to 70th place in the ranking is a positive reflection of our teaching and internationalisation strategies. This recognition reinforces our commitment to excellence and preparing students for a global market and encourages us to improve,’ emphasises Luísa Pinto, Director of MiM.
This Financial Times ranking evaluates the top Master’s programmes in Management from around the world, based on 19 indicators grouped into categories such as: alumni career progress, school diversity, international experience, research and carbon footprint.
The FEP Master’s programme stands out as the best programme in Portugal when it comes to return on academic investment, meaning that graduates quickly recoup the amount invested, considering current salaries, the length of the course and tuition fees.
In terms of career progression, MiM leads the way in Portugal (1st place) and ranks 8th in the world, with its students’ ability to reach positions of greater responsibility and join large organisations after completing the course standing out.
In addition, MiM and the School itself continue to demonstrate a strong commitment to gender equality. This commitment is evidenced by the significant representation of women, both in the teaching staff and among the students. FEP ranks 1st in Portugal and 9th-11th worldwide in terms of female presence among students, and 2nd in Portugal and 15th-17th worldwide in terms of the proportion of women on the teaching staff.
In terms of salary progression, the Master’s ranks 2nd in Portugal and 12th in the world, with an average 66 per cent increase in graduates’ salaries after completing the course.
‘This distinction underlines the academic excellence of our institution and reinforces FEP as one of the leading business schools globally. This recognition reflects the quality of our teaching, the international relevance of the programme and the strong impact on the career progression of our graduates, mirroring our ongoing commitment to innovation, diversity and the training of leaders for an increasingly competitive global market,’ emphasises Óscar Afonso, FEP’s Dean.
In the 2024 edition of the ‘Masters in Management’ ranking, 100 schools from around the world were selected, including four from Portugal. To be included in this ranking, institutions must meet strict criteria of excellence, such as accreditation by the Association for Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a distinction awarded to only 6% of business schools worldwide. The FEP received this accreditation in 2021, entering the Financial Times ranking for the first time.
