The School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto (FEP) has joined forces with Porto Business School (PBS) and the National Defence Institute (IDN) to create the Geopolitical Risk Observatory for Businesses, an innovative initiative aimed at helping Portuguese organisations navigate the challenges posed by the current global geopolitical landscape.
In a context of international crises and rising tensions – including the impact of the U.S. presidential elections on relations with Europe, Russia, China, and the Middle East, as well as nearly three years of conflict in Ukraine – the Observatory seeks to be an essential resource for national companies and institutions.
According to Jorge Rodrigues, coordinator of the Geopolitical Risk Observatory for Businesses and Professor at FEP, “at a time of great global tension, it is crucial that Portuguese organisations understand geopolitical risks and know how to respond. With uncertainty surrounding U.S. foreign policy, the Middle East, and Europe, among other major international pressure points, the Observatory aims to monitor the most critical risks and support the development of action plans to ensure institutional sustainability.”
The Geopolitical Risk Observatory for Businesses will gather information and conduct studies on the main global and regional geopolitical risks affecting Portuguese companies. It will also promote collaboration with academic, business and governmental institutions, as well as the development of best practices for risk management and mitigation strategies.
FEP, recognised for its role in economic and strategic education and research, contributes to this initiative with its analytical expertise, reinforcing the importance of economic science in anticipating and mitigating risks.
