The School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto (FEP) hosted the latest meeting of the international consortium of the AI Leaders project, held on 7th and 8th May as part of the Erasmus+ Programme. This international initiative aims to strengthen education in artificial intelligence (AI), promoting its ethical and applied use, particularly among university students in management and business fields.
The meeting at FEP brought together representatives from partner institutions for planning sessions and collaborative discussions. Attendees included Bartosz Kalinowski (PhD, DSc) from the University of Lodz; Ana Freire, Ramon Bestida, and Rodrigo Cetina from UPF Barcelona School of Management; Erin Kummer from ACEEU (Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities); Kathryn O’Brien from the European E-Learning Institute (EUEI); and Con Bartels from Feltch. FEP was represented by Professors Fábio Duarte, Bruno Veloso, Elda Marques, and Jorge Valente.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the Co-Creation Workshop, dedicated to the development of an Ethical AI Hackathon Guide, aimed at higher education leaders, students, academics, and business partners. The guide seeks to support the creation of practical and collaborative experiences around the ethical application of artificial intelligence.
Among the project’s goals for academics are the alignment of academic programmes with ethical AI frameworks, the reinforcement of trust in AI education, and the exploration of innovative and engaging teaching methodologies. For students, AI Leaders offers an intensive learning experience that encourages problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and collaboration, while also fostering a deeper understanding of AI applications and their ethical implications in business contexts. This aims to enhance employability through a practical, labour market-oriented approach.
