The FEP Finance Club, a student organisation at the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto (FEP), will host the second edition of the Finance Summit on 14 May, from 10:00 to 17:00. The initiative aims to serve as a platform for interaction between students and professionals in the financial sector, promoting financial literacy and providing enriching, hands-on learning experiences.

In the morning, the event will be aimed at secondary school high schools, who will attend two 45-minute training sessions. The first session, beginning at 10:30, will be led by Maria Furtado de Mendonça and Cláudia Barroso Muller from the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation. Designed to be interactive, it will include a practical activity involving the application of fundamental financial literacy concepts.

At 11:30, Pamela Macedo from Casa de Investimentos—an organisation recognised for its contribution to financial education in Portugal—will deliver the second session. This session will seek to raise awareness of the importance of developing informed and responsible investment habits, encouraging greater autonomy in managing personal finances.

In the afternoon, the event will target university students, particularly those from FEP, the University of Porto, and other institutions offering programmes in economics and management.

Two further sessions are scheduled. The first, at 15:00, will focus on public finance and feature José Vidrago, Chair of the Board of the Institute for the Management of Social Security Capitalisation Funds, and Carlos Guimarães Pinto, Member of Parliament for Iniciativa Liberal and lead candidate for Porto. The session will address key topics such as the current state of public finances, tax burden, budgetary policy options, the impact of public debt on intergenerational fairness, and the role of the state in the economy.

At 16:00, a panel discussion on artificial intelligence in the financial sector will take place, featuring Gonçalo Freire, Director of Fintech Solutions and Advisor to the Portugal Fintech Board, Pedro Baldaia, Head of Equities at Banco Carregosa, and Filipa Castro, Head of the AI Tech Lab at Euronext. The session will be moderated by Raquel Dias, President of the FEP Finance Club. The discussion will explore the growing role of AI in finance, particularly in process automation, data analysis, and investment decision-making.

The final session, scheduled for 17:00, will focus on “The Future of Europe and the World”, inspired by the report by Mario Draghi and led by economist and politician Fernando Medina. It will offer a strategic reflection on Europe’s development trajectory within a global landscape shaped by economic, geopolitical, and technological shifts.

Now in its second year, the FEP Finance Summit offers a unique opportunity for students to engage with prominent professionals and explore a range of fields including wealth management, real estate, venture capital, private equity, personal finance, and public finance.

This initiative forms part of the FEP Finance Club’s mission to foster both technical and personal skills essential for building a successful career in finance. Throughout the academic year, the club organises a wide array of extracurricular activities, including lectures, competitions, workshops, company visits, and other financial literacy projects.

Attendance at the FEP Finance Summit is free and open to all interested participants, but prior registration is required here.
