The Executive Master’s in Hospital Administration, a new educational initiative by the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto (FEP), has just been accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES). The programme is currently undergoing registration with the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES).
This one-year master’s programme (60 ECTS) is designed for economists, managers, and other professionals with at least five years of experience who wish to update their skills and specialise in hospital and healthcare management. Coordinated by Professor Álvaro Almeida, the programme combines a robust theoretical foundation with a practical approach, aligning with best European practices in the field.
With a strong emphasis on developing practical skills, the programme includes notable institutional partnerships such as the Santo António Local Health Unit, the Matosinhos Local Health Unit, and the Entre Douro e Vouga Local Health Unit. These collaborations ensure training is firmly rooted in the realities of the sector and focused on solving real-world challenges.
The curriculum consists of a first semester comprising compulsory and elective courses totalling 30 ECTS, followed by an applied project work (30 ECTS). A public defence of this project is required to obtain the Master’s degree.
This programme is part of the School’s portfolio of Executive Master’s degrees, which already includes two programmes launched in the current academic year: the Executive Master’s in Banking, Financial Instruments and Markets and the Executive Master’s in Retail Operations Management.
Further details will be announced soon, following formal registration with DGES.
